Land O' Lakes Man Arrested, Released After Being Accused of Slightly Injuring 73-Year-Old

A Land O’ Lakes man accused of throwing a 73-year-old to the ground and slightly injuring him was released from jail on bail May 11, the morning after he was arrested.

Robert Viggiano Sr., 45, was arrested by the Pasco County Sheriff's Office on Tuesday, May 10, and charged with battery on a person 65 or older.

Viggiano, of 3205 Coconut Grove Road, Land O' Lakes, told sheriff’s deputies he was driving a tan truck on Coconut Grove Road on Tuesday evening when he came up behind a vehicle driven by 73-year-old John O’Mara. Viggiano told the deputies the vehicle was moving slowly, and he followed closely to get it to speed up. Then, O’Mara “brake checked” him, he said.

Viggiano followed O’Mara to his home in Land O’ Lakes, saw him get out of his car and confronted him about the driving incident. The two got into a verbal argument, Viggiano told deputies.

Viggiano told deputies he pushed O’Mara, then grabbed him by the front of his shirt and pushed him to the ground.

O’Mara said Viggiano punched him in the head during the argument. He suffered a bump and cut on his head and a bump and cut on his elbow. He declined medical treatment.

O’Mara, who told deputies he knew Viggiano, said Viggiano drove away and gave deputies two addresses at which he could be found.   

Viggiano was arrested wearing swim trunks and flip-flops. He was released from the Land O’ Lakes Jail on $5,000 bail.
