Man Crashed Stolen Motorcycle, Deputies Say

He says he acquired it from a friend, whom he would not name, according to the sheriff's office.

A Land O' Lakes man faces charges of grand theft auto after crashing a stolen motorcycle.

According to a Pasco County complaint affidavit, while investigating a recent hit-and-run accident, a deputy made contact with Marshall Lee Chapman, 20, at his home at 2290 Eagles Watch Drive.

The location of the accident was not immediately available from the Pasco County Sheriff's Office.

Chapman identified the orange and black KTM 300EXC in his garage as the vehicle he was riding when the accident occured, an incident report stated. In a non-custodial interview, Chapman told the deputy he had recently acquired the motorcycle from a friend, whom he refused to name, in exchange for $800 and a television, the report stated.

Chapman said he was told the motorcycle was "clean" and not stolen, according to the report.

A check of the vehicle identification number (VIN) indicated the motorcycle was stolen out of Hillsborough County, the incident report stated.

Chapman was arrested and charged with grand theft automobile. He was later released on $1,500 bond.
