Man Seriously Injured In I-75 Wrong-Way Crash

A Land O' Lakes man suffered serious injuries in a Sunday morning wrong-way crash on I-75.

LAND O’ LAKES, FL β€” A 57-year-old Land O’ Lakes man suffered serious injuries Sunday morning when troopers say he drove his Nissan SUV the wrong way on Interstate 75 in south Hillsborough County.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Gregg Alan Richardson was heading southbound in the northbound inside travel lane of I-75 near milepost 236 just before 2 a.m. Feb. 12. At that time, a GMC driven by Juan Luis Garcia, 26, of Palmetto was heading north in the correct direction.

Troopers say the two vehicles collided, head on. Garcia suffered minor injuries in the crash. Richardson, however, was seriously injured and was taken to Blake Medical Center in Manatee County for treatment.

Alcohol, a highway patrol report said, is suspected to have played a role in Richardson’s actions.

Charges are pending the outcome of the highway patrol’s investigation. No further information is being released at this time.
