Park Overhaul Plan Moving Ahead
Renovations at the Land O' Lakes Community Center may start before the end of the year.

A proposal to overhaul the Land O’ Lakes Community Center park area is moving ahead.
“We will start construction before the end of the year, hopefully,” said Pasco County Parks and Recreation Director Rick Buckman.
Permitting is being secured to allow the county to go out to bid on the roughly $1.8 million project on Land O' Lakes Boulevard. Officials envision improved fields for local athletes, a picnic shelter, a paved walking trail, enhanced parking, new playgrounds and a new concession stand and restroom building, Buckman said.

The project also includes a location where the Heritage Park Foundation could create a band shell or amphitheater. The community center building on the property will remain untouched.
Residents who attended a public meeting earlier this year on the project expressed satisfaction.

“(It’s in keeping with what Heritage Park wants,” Sandy Graves, president of the Heritage Park Foundation, had said.
The proposal includes a partnership with Pasco County Schools. In exchange for having improved access to the park during the day, the district will allow residents access to a portion of Sanders Memorial Elementary School’s ground during non-school hours.
