Pasco County Magnet School Application Period Starts Soon

Parents have a limited window during which to enroll their kids at one of Pasco County Schools' magnet programs.

LAND O’ LAKES, FL — Parents of Pasco County school-aged children who want their kids to attend a magnet program next year have a limited window of opportunity to apply. That window opens Thursday, Dec. 15 and closes on Jan. 20, 2017.

The district currently operates three magnet programs open to students across the county:

  • Sanders Memorial STEAM Elementary Magnet School – This elementary program has a focus on science, technology, engineering, arts and math. This school is located in Land O' Lakes.
  • Centennial STEM Middle Magnet School – This program focuses on science, technology, engineering and mathematics. This school is located in Dade City.
  • Bayonet Point STEM Middle Magnet School – This program has the same focus as Centennial, but is located on the county’s west side.

Parents who want to apply for a program are asked to fill out an application via the county’s website. Properly completed applications will be entered into a lottery for placement in the upcoming school year.

“Families will be notified of their acceptance status by mid-February, so that those who are not accepted have time to complete the traditional school choice open enrollment application during the February 1 to March 1 application window,” the school district wrote in an email to media. Families without access to computers may fill out applications at their local schools or public libraries.
