Here are all the important dates families need to know about for the upcoming school year that kicks off in August.

LAND O’ LAKES, FL — While most kids might say it’s way too early to consider talking about next school year, parents know better. Those first bells will ring soon enough, and that means it’s time to start getting ready.
Parents who want to get a jump start on planning their schedules for the academic year ahead will find Patch has them covered. Here are the important dates for kids enrolled in Pasco County Schools for the 2017-18 academic year:
- Middle and high school orientation – Aug. 8
- Elementary school orientation – Aug. 10
- First day of school – Aug. 14
- Labor Day holiday – Sept. 4
- Progress reports – Sept. 15
- End of first grading period – Oct. 13
- Teacher planning day – Oct. 16
- Report cards – Oct. 23
- Fall break – Nov. 18-26
- Possible hurricane makeup days – Nov. 20-21
- End of second quarter – Dec. 22
- Winer break – Dec. 23 through Jan. 7, 2018
- Teacher planning day – Jan. 8
- Martin Luther King Jr. Day – Jan. 15
- Report cards – Jan. 16
- Progress reports – Feb. 9
- End of third quarter – March 15
- Teacher planning day – March 16
- Spring break – March 17-25
- Report cards – April 2
- Progress reports – April 27
- Students’ last day – May 25
