Teen Carjacking Suspect Found Hiding In Woods (Video)

A carjacking case that began in Hillsborough County ended in Land O' Lakes Sunday afternoon.

LAND O’ LAKES, FL β€” A 15-year-old boy accused of carjacking the driver of a BMW in Hillsborough County on Sunday found himself in handcuffs after entering Pasco County.

According to the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office, its deputies received notification from Hillsborough about the stolen vehicle around 5:40 p.m. July 9. The BWM that was stolen had been tracked into Wesley Chapel, an email from the sheriff’s office said.

Pasco deputies responded to where the vehicle had last been sighted and began β€œa coordinated effort to set a large perimeter around the vehicle as it began moving,’ the email said. Deputies deployed stop sticks and attempted a traffic stop, but the BMW kept going.

Deputies say the BMW was followed into Land O’ Lakes, where deputies tried stop sticks again at Ehren Cutoff and Parkway Boulevard. That time, the stop sticks worked.

Deputies say the driver of the stolen car pulled onto Cherry Ridge Drive and bailed out. A K9 unit was called in and found the teen hiding in the woods, the email said.

The boy was brought into custody. He faces carjacking charges out of Hillsborough County and fleeing and eluding charges, as well.

Patch is not releasing the teen’s name due to his age. The sheriff's office released bodycam footage of the capture. It can be viewed below:
