Town Hall Meetings Draw Dismal Crowds—Why?

The second of a series of town hall meetings hosted by the Pasco County School board only brought out 25 people. Last year's meetings each drew 600-plus. What's different?

Attendance at the second of five town hall meetings host by the Pasco County School Board was dismal, much like . According to district spokeswoman Summer Romagnoli, only about 25 people showed up  Tuesday to share their ideas for addressing the district's $25.3 million shortfall for next year.

We asked our readers why they thought the turnout this year is so low, compared to the 600-plus who attended each of the town hall meetings last year.

"At last year's town hall meetings many ideas were given, none were acted on. Jobs were cut, staff displaced. I personally don't think the public is being heard (four day school week anyone?) so why go and say the same things again when we feel they will not be heard?" Tracey Weiss Suits commented on our Facebook page.
