It's apple harvest season! Here's a look at a local apple fundraiser and places to buy apples in Largo.
In childrenβs books, JohnnyΒ AppleseedΒ is often portrayed as a fun, historical fellow who wears a cooking pot on his head and disperses apple seeds wherever he travels.Β Johnny Appleseed Day, celebrated in late September each year, celebrates his birth, life, and generosity.
John Chapman, aka Johnny Appleseed, was a Massachusetts-born philosopher and philanthropist, who, beginning in 1802, wandered through northern and Midwestern states planting apple nurseries. His trees fed many settlers, and he was loved wherever he went. Β
Pinellas County 4-H makes getting apples and helping a local non-profit easy! Each year the local 4-H sells apples and pecans for its main fundraiser. Order must be placed online by Monday and pickup will beΒ Oct. 25 to 28 at the Chester Ochs 4-H Educational Center, 14644 113thΒ Ave., N. in Largo.

Local farmers marketsΒ are also sure to sell apples, along with other homegrown and organic fall fruits and vegetables. Plus, Largo has some great produce places.
