Largo High Student Arrested for Bringing Gun to School

A 17-year-old Largo High School student was charged Tuesday after bringing an unloaded handgun and ammunition to school in his backpack.

A 17-year-old student at Largo High School was arrested Tuesday after police found an unloaded handgun in his backpack.

Police received a tip from the student’s mother, who told officials that an undisclosed source said her son might be in possession of alleged stolen property including a MacBook computer and a gun. The items were later confirmed as being stolen from a recent burglary.

Largo Police quickly located the 17-year-old and discovered an unloaded .22-caliber handgun and ammunition in his backpack. Police do not believe the student brought the gun to school with the intent to threaten or harm anyone, according to a news release. It appears the student brought the gun to school to prevent his mother from finding it at his house.
