Largo Homicide Under Investigation

LARGO, FL — A 19-year-old man faces first-degree murder charges following a death in Largo on New Year’s Eve.

According to the Largo Police Department, officers were called to the 600 block of Rosery Road Northwest around 11:30 p.m. Dec. 31. When they arrived, they found out that EMS personnel had pronounced Quade Gifford dead at the scene. Gifford, an email from police said, had suffered “obvious trauma.”

Police identified Jared Compton as a possible suspect in the death, the email said. Compton was interviewed on Sunday, Jan. 1. He “implicated himself as the person responsible for Mr. Gifford’s death,” the agency's email said.

Compton has been charged with first-degree murder. Further details about the case, including a possible motive and Gifford’s age, have not yet been released.
