Largo Turns a Page - Community Reading event
Community Reading program at Largo Public Library
The third annual Largo Turns a Page Community Read features a dramatic new book, Salt to the Sea, by the New York Times-bestselling author Ruta Sepetys.
Salt to the Sea takes place in 1945 at the end of World War II in Europe. The story is told through four teenagers with four closely guarded secrets. Each one born of a different homeland, each one hunted, and haunted, by tragedy, lies and war.
As thousands of desperate refugees flock to the coast in the midst of a Soviet advance, their four paths converge, vying for passage aboard the Wilhelm Gustloff, a ship that promises safety and freedom. Ms. Sepetys gives these passengers a voice and gives us the rare opportunity to hear stories that were silenced years ago. Itβs almost as if youβve discovered a message in a bottle after reading her book.
