• Largo residents raise alarm over apartment plan on former landfill site (baynews9.com) — Neighbors in a Largo neighborhood are pushing back against a proposed 1,800-unit apartment complex on a former construction-debris landfill along Pine Street, citing contamination and traffic worries. A longtime resident and cancer survivor is among those questioning whether the brownfield can be safely redeveloped. County officials and the developer say testing so far shows no hazardous materials, with another public hearing set for January 20.
   

• 40-unit affordable townhome community Pelican Place breaks ground in south St. Pete (stpeterising.com) — Habitat for Humanity’s latest work includes buying an eight-acre site in Largo to build 100 affordable townhomes, a major boost for local housing options. While they just broke ground on a 40-unit project in south St. Pete, Largo residents can look ahead to new ownership opportunities as plans for the Largo townhome community move forward. Interested families can learn more through Habitat’s homeownership program.
   

• JWB and Sheriff's Office collaborate on new initiative (stpetecatalyst.com) — A new online safety initiative for parents was just announced at the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Administration Building in Largo, offering free annual access to the Parent ProTech platform. The program helps adults understand social media, AI and other digital risks facing kids, with support from the Sheriff’s Office and Pinellas County Schools. Local caregivers can sign up online to start using the tools.
