Scooter Rider Killed In Largo Crash

A DUI manslaughter arrest has been made in connection with a Sunday evening crash in Largo that left a 59-year-old man dead.

LARGO, FL — The Largo Police Department has announced the arrest of a 42-year-old man on DUI manslaughter charges following a fatal Sunday evening crash.

According to the agency, David L. Stinger, 59, was heading westbound on Rosery Road around 5 p.m. Aug. 20. At that time, a Ford F250 driven by James A. Mayer was heading eastbound on Rosery Road.

Policy say Mayer attempted to make a turn onto Missouri Avenue and drove into the path of the oncoming scooter. The Ford hit the scooter, an email from the police department said.

Stinger died from injuries sustained in the crash.

Mayer was subsequently charged with DUI manslaughter and driving on a suspended license.

Mayer was booked into the Pinellas County Jail following his arrest. He remained there on Monday morning in lieu of $50,250 bond, jail records indicate.
