Severe Thunderstorms Hit Clearwater, Largo

A thunderstorm pummels coastal communities and the St. Petersburg-Clearwater International Airport, and more is expected tonight, forecasters said.

The worst of the rain and thunderstorms are not behind us yet.

The National Weather Service reported that a severe thunderstorm with winds up to 60 mph was six miles southwest of Indian Shores earlier Tuesday afternoon. At 1:45 p.m. today, the storm was moving east, bringing torrents of rain.

People are being advised to move indoors, because frequent lightning strikes are expected. Rip currents also pose a risk along the beaches.
