2-Year-Old Dies After Walking Behind Grandmother's SUV

PASCO COUNTY, FL — A 2-year-old child is dead following a heartbreaking accident in which a Wesley Chapel woman accidentally ran over her grandchild.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, on Friday at 4:49 p.m., a 58-year-old woman was summoned to assist someone who was stranded in a vehicle on a dirt road near her home. She put her SUV in reverse and was backing down Schambeau Road south of State Road 52 when the child walked between the SUV and the stranded vehicle and was struck by the SUV.

The 2-year-old was airlifted to the hospital and later died.
