Lutz Residents Line Up at Polls to 'Make a Statement'

Some say the state of the economy brought them out in the early morning rain.

Lutz residents lining up at one local polling place want change.

And coffee.

Voters weren't quite awake yet as they stood patiently in line to cast their votes early Tuesday morning. Most stood silent under the covered walkways of River of Life Church as the drizzle cast a sleepy spell on the gray, dreary morning.

The weather and a lack of caffiene didn't quell their desire to make an impact, though.

Some, . Others arrived just after the polls opened 7 a.m.

Many didn't feel up to talking quite yet—one woman said she'd trade her opinion for a cup of coffee—but those who did said they were there because the country is not at its best.

And their vote is their voice.

Matt Bancroft, 28, an accountant for a nonprofit organization, said the state of the nation's economy brought him to the polls Tuesday morning.

"The economy is in really bad shape," the Lutz resident said.

Lu Ho, who stood behind Bancroft in line, agreed.

Ho said he was at the polls to "make a statement."

"The economy is really bad," he said.

Bancroft said he wants to see a specific kind of change with those elected to govern.

"I'm hoping to see people agree for once," he said.

Jennifer Rogers, who first joked that only coffee could get her to talk, said showing up at the polls early Tuesday before work was a put up or shut up, of sorts.

Rogers was there for her voice to be heard, she said, "so I can't complain about choices made in the future because I contributed to them."
