'A' Safety Grade Earned By St. Joseph's Hospital North In Lutz

LUTZ, FL β€” St. Joseph’s Hospital-North in Lutz earned a top grade in the most recent ratings from a national not-for-profit organization that promotes patient safety.

St. Joseph’s Hospital-North received an β€œA” grade in the Leapfrog Group’s Spring 2023 Hospital Safety Grades.

The Leapfrog Group collects and analyzes data about infections, accidents, injuries, and errors at nearly 3,000 general hospitals. In the spring and fall of each year, the Leapfrog Group assigns them letter grades ranging from β€œA” to β€œF” and releases those grades publicly.

St. Joseph’s Hospital-North, 4211 Van Dyke Road in Lutz, has received consecutive grades of β€œA” as the hospital also received an β€œA” in the fall 2022 grades.

β€œSt. Joseph’s Hospital-North’s rigorous commitment and focus on patient safety is manifested and demonstrated through this evaluation by a respected and well-regarded national organization,” said Sara Dodds, St. Joseph’s Hospital-North president.

β€œPatient safety is the highest of our priorities and goals. Each team member and medical staff member takes ownership of their patient care responsibilities as it relates to safety," Dodds said. "Patients and visitors to our hospital can be assured we have taken exhaustive measures to provide quality and safe care. These consecutive grades of β€œA” are indicators of that.”

St. Joseph’s Hospital-North was one of 10 BayCare hospitals that earned an β€œA” in the spring grades. Other BayCare β€œA” hospitals are Bartow Regional Medical Center, Mease Countryside Hospital in Safety Harbor, Mease Dunedin Hospital, Morton Plant Hospital in Clearwater, Morton Plant North Bay Hospital in New Port Richey, South Florida Baptist Hospital in Plant City, St. Anthony’s Hospital in St. Petersburg, St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tampa and St. Joseph’s Hospital-South in Riverview.

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is a composite score that comprises the following:

  • More than 30 national performance measures collected and reported publicly by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS)
  • The Leapfrog Hospital Survey
  • Information gathered from other supplemental data sources

The 210-bed St. Joseph’s Hospital-North opened in February 2010 to bring high-quality health care services to North Tampa in an environment designed to help patients heal.

Part of BayCare Health System, St. Joseph’s Hospital-North features all private patient suites and offers emergency care, surgical services, GI endoscopy, imaging, intensive care, obstetrics, cardiac catheterization, interventional radiology and behavioral health.
