Van Bursts Into Flames After Striking Tree on I-75; Driver Killed

A 72-year-old Gainesville man was killed Saturday after he lost control of his Dodge Caravan, hit a tree and the van caught fire in Pasco.

DADE CITY, FL — A 72-year-old Gainesville man was killed Saturday after he lost control of his Dodge Caravan on Interstate 75, hit a tree and the van burst into flames.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, at 3:30 p.m. the man was headed south on I-75 south of Blanton Road when he failed to negotiate a curve, traveled onto the grass shoulder and struck a tree. The van caught fire and the driver died at the scene.
