1. Melbourne Police Operation C.L.E.A.N. Yields 12 Arrests, Drug Seizures (tapinto.net) — A major multi-agency drug operation in Melbourne led to 12 arrests, more than two dozen felony charges, and the seizure of narcotics, cash, and a handgun. Melbourne Police say Operation C.L.E.A.N. targeted open-air drug sales, gang activity, and illegal gambling machines at local businesses, with one suspect still outstanding after the December 4 sweep.
   

2. Melbourne OKs Cigar Lounge Plan in Eau Gallie Arts District (tapinto.net) — Melbourne’s City Council has unanimously cleared the way for The Office Cigar Lounge in the Eau Gallie Arts District, approving its conditional use permit to serve alcohol with cigar sales. The lounge at 587 W. Eau Gallie Blvd. plans late-night hours, a whiskey selection, memberships, and cigar lockers, with occupancy capped at 48 due to a single restroom.
   

3. Plane Crashes Into Traffic While Making Emergency Landing On Highway (iheart.com) — A small plane made an emergency landing on I-95 near Cocoa, striking a car driven by a 57-year-old Melbourne woman and sending her to Viera Hospital with minor injuries. The crash snarled evening traffic before the highway reopened around 9 p.m. Federal and state investigators are now working to determine what caused the in-flight emergency.
   

4. Today in Melbourne History – December 10, 1924 (tapinto.net) — Long before modern Melbourne took shape, mammoths and mastodons once roamed the Space Coast, as shown by remarkable fossils unearthed here in the 1920s. A local orange grower’s discovery drew a Massachusetts paleontologist to Melbourne, where digs revealed mammoth and mastodon remains plus other prehistoric animals, later displayed at Amherst College and inspiring its mammoth mascot.
   

5. Edward F. McGuire Jr., Formerly of East Hampton, Dies December 5 (27east.com) — A longtime Melbourne resident, Edward “Frank” McGuire Jr. has died at 92 after spending his retirement years here with family and friends. Originally from East Hampton, he was a Korean War Navy veteran, devoted volunteer, and proud family man. He spent his final months at The Blake at Viera, with special thanks given to Mederi Hospice of Brevard.
