  1. Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland was briefly locked down on Wednesday due to a "possible threat," according to a spokesperson for the Broward County Sheriff's Office. The lockdown came one day after the five-year anniversary of the tragic Parkland mass shooting that left 17 people dead, including 14 teenagers on Valentine's Day 2018. No threat was found by police.   2. A vehicle malfunction caused a driver to strike eight people at a car auction in South Florida's Lauderdale Lakes on Wednesday morning. Auctions were paused for the rest of the day. Multiple people were hospitalized in the accident. The business refused to comment on the incident. (WSVN)
  3. North Miami Beach commissioners have been skipping city meetings and making city business stall. The previous city commission meeting ended without beginning due to the absence of elected officials for a quorum. Several city officials are reportedly facing termination at the moment.   4. Two Miami-Dade County lawmakers want to pass legislation protecting homeowners from insurance lenders purchasing CPI coverage to only when "a property owner does not have regular insurance." The legislation also seeks to regulate insurance lenders and insurance agents in other practices that could be harmful to homeowners. It comes at a time of intense instability in Florida's property insurance market. (Florida Politics)
  5. Two hotels are planned in South Florida at Island Gardens site, according to filings received by the FAA. One hotel is planned to be a luxury hotel, while the other a lifestyle hotel. The developers signed an agreement for water and sewage in November 2022. (The Next Miami)

  • The Broward County State Attorney’s Office has dropped all charges against a South Florida man who was allegedly choke-slammed by a deputy with BSO. The victim was originally charged with resisting arrest without violence and disorderly conduct. (Miami New Times)
