Here are the top stories today in Miami:
- A South Florida art dealer from Palm Beach pled guilty on Tuesday to money laundering in an art fraud scheme, according to a U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) news release. The dealer owns art galleries in the area, including Danieli Fine Art and Galerie Danieli in Palm Beach County. Sentencing will occur May 30 before U.S. District Judge Aileen M. Cannon in Fort Pierce. (Miami Patch)
- Thousands of cyclists are expected in South Florida this weekend at Hard Rock Stadium this weekend for the annual Dolphins Challenge Cancer XIII. The fun kicks off today at 7 a.m. Millions of dollars have been raised this year supporting cancer research at the University of Miami’s Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, according to WSVN. - A dead body was found near a jetty in Miami Beach on Friday, according to officials. An investigation is now underway by authorities. Police have not disclosed any information about the identity of the body. There is also no indication as of Friday evening on whether investigators suspect foul play was involved. (WPLG Local 10)
- A South Florida judge has tossed a manslaughter case against a Hollywood Hills nursing home administrator charged by authorities in the deaths of nine residents after Hurricane Irma in 2017. The judge cited a lack of evidence by prosecutors in the case. The accused administrator could have potentially faced 15 years in prison if convicted. (NBC Miami)
- Miami Carnaval returns next month starting Saturday, March 4. The event is sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Little Havana and is expected to generate $40 million for local artists. Proceeds will benefit Kiwanis of Little Havana Foundation's youth development programs. (WPLG Local 10)
