2 Fishermen Rescued Off South Beach

2 fishermen had to be rescued when their 19-foot fishing boat capsized near Government Cut in South Beach on Wednesday morning.

MIAMI BEACH, FL — Two fishermen were rescued Wednesday morning when their boat capsized two miles off shore. The fishermen were picked up by another fishing boat. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Fireboat 73 brought the fisherman back to shore.

A spokesperson for Miami-Dade Fire Rescue told patch that the 19-foot fishing boat capsized near Government Cut in South Beach.

"Two fisherman were taken out to sea due to the current," according to the spokesperson. "Fortunately, their anchor kept them stationary until Good Samaritans on another fishing boat picked up the two men and called for help."

Neither of the fishermen were injured.

First responders recommend that boaters check advisories and warnings before heading out to sea and that they make sure all communication devices are working. They also suggest that boaters leave a float plan with a reliable person who can notify authorities if something goes wrong.
