The Labrador-pointer mix is the department’s first-ever support K-9, brought in to boost mental wellness and give firefighters a comforting way to open up about tough calls.

Suspect arrested after slashing man's neck ‘ear to ear' on Miami Beach: Police (nbcmiami.com) — Miami Beach police have arrested a 24-year-old man accused of slashing another man’s neck in an October attack near the 1700 block of the beach. The victim survived after being rushed to Ryder Trauma Center, and detectives say surveillance images and a photo lineup helped identify the suspect, who is now being held without bond on an aggravated battery charge.
   

4. Affordable housing may come to Surfside. Mayor says, ‘We're going to oppose' (miamiherald.com) — A proposed 12-story mixed hotel and residential project in Surfside, just north of Miami Beach, is testing Florida’s Live Local Act by bypassing local height limits in exchange for affordable units. Surfside’s mayor and several former officials strongly oppose the plan, warning about traffic, emergency access, and loss of small-town character while state lawmakers defend the law’s balance of local control.
