Blind Woman Rescued From Burning Miami Beach Home
Miami Beach police released dramatic video of 2 officers entering a burning home to rescue a blind woman.
MIAMII BEACH, FL — Miami Beach police released dramatic body camera video of two officers rescuing a blind woman and her husband from their burning home. The fire broke out shortly after midnight on Monday in the 4500 block of Post Avenue. Both officers were later treated for smoke inhalation at Mount Sinai Medical Center.
The couple who lives in the home were identified as 65-year-old Manishjay Spitz and his wife Shelly, who is legally blind.
Miami Beach Police said that Shelly Spitz was unable to find her way out of the home. Officers Alex Llaneras and Ralph Vera led the woman from her bedroom to safety as they made their way through thick smoke. The officers could be heard coughing on the video from the smoke.

The fire broke out in the kitchen, according to Miami Beach police, who said that the couple left a slow cooker unattended when they went to sleep.

"The slow cooker caught fire and within seconds the kitchen was on fire," police said. "The fire was contained in the kitchen and did not spread to the rest of the house."
