Elderly Woman Rescued After 6 Days On Floor

2 Miami Beach police officers who rescued an 89-year-old woman trapped in her apartment for 6 days are being credited with saving her life.

MIAMI BEACH, FL — Two Miami Beach police officers rescued an 89-year-old woman who lay helplessly on the floor of her South Beach apartment for six days. The incident happened back in January. But video and details of the dramatic rescue were released for the first time on Thursday night.

Officers Pablo Gonzalez and Whismick Charles can be seen on the video entering the woman's home through a window. "Senora," Gonzalez called as he pushed aside blinds. He heard the woman's faint response and jumped into action.

"We got to go around now," Gonzalez could be heard exclaiming on the video.

Violeta Pilgrim was found in her first-floor apartment on Jan. 15 in the 200 block of Collins Avenue. A friend alerted police when he wasn't able to reach the woman for a week.

"I gained entry through the bedroom window and I began to call out to the person laying on the floor which appeared to be a female where she mumbled very softly," explained Gonzalez in a police report. "I then advised officer Charles that the person was conscious. He immediately contacted fire rescue to respond in emergency mode. The female was conscious and breathing on the floor in the prone position next to her bed."
