Man Who Mowed Down Pedestrians Took Painkiller: Police
Miami Beach police said that additional charges may be forthcoming depending on the results of a toxicology report.

MIAMI BEACH, FL — A 29-year-old man who is accused of slamming into five pedestrians in his black Mercedes, including two infants, told police that he took Percocet prior to the crash, according to court documents. Matthew Timothy Miller of Daytona Beach was charged with reckless driving with serious injuries and related offenses. Miami Beach police said that additional charges may be filed.
"At last check, all victims remain in the hospital and the two infants remain critical," explained Ernesto Rodriguez of the Miami Beach Police Department on Monday. "Additional charges may be forthcoming, however, we must wait for the toxicology report to be produced."
Rodriguez said that the incident occurred around 3:30 p.m. on Sunday at 18 Street and Meridian Avenue.

The victims were taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital. One of the infants was not expected to survive. Court officials said that the babies are twins.
"As the black 2012 Mercedes-Benz entered the intersection, it began to veer from the northbound lane to the southbound lanes of Meridian Avenue, still traveling north, crossing two travel lanes," according to court documents. "The black 2012 Mercedes-Benz continued driving in this direction, striking a traffic delineator road stop sticks before driving onto the sidewalk, located on the west side of Meridian Avenue."

Court records said that Miller was traveling in a northwest direction on the sidewalk.
Miami Beach Fire Department personnel had to extricate Miller from the Mercedes, according to court documents. He listed his occupation as mover.
When asked if he had taken any medication or drugs, Miller allegedly responded: "No, I only took some Percocet," court documents said.
Miller allegedly crashed into the five pedestrians, a metal trash can and a parking kiosk before crashing into a large tree in front of 1770 Meridian Avenue.
