New Port Richey’s Sims Park Up for National Honors

Sims Park has been named a finalist in the Great Places in America contest. Voting ends this week.

NEW PORT RICHEY, FL — People who want to help New Port Richey’s Sims Park earn national honors only have a few days left to do so. Online voting in the American Planning Association’s Great Places in America: People’s Choice contest ends this Friday, Oct. 28.

Sims Park was one of 150 places nominated for recognition in the third-annual contest. The park at Grand Boulevard and Bank Street has been named a finalist in the competition.

New Port Richey faces some stiff competition in this year’s contest. Other finalists include San Antonio, Texas’ Pearl District, Eugene, Oregon’s Whiteaker Neighborhood; Dubuque, Iowa’s Millwork District and Princeton, New Jersey’s Nassau Street.

“The park provides beautiful views of the Pithlachascotee River, opportunities to gather and socialize, a link to the City’s historical past and amenities featuring contemporary designs,” the planning association wrote about Sims Park on its website.

Voting closes at 5 p.m. EST Oct. 28. The winner will be announced on Nov. 2.
