Shot Fired at Pasco Deputies; Father and Son Arrested

Breaking: A Port Richey man is accused of firing on deputies during a Friday warrant search.

PORT RICHEY, FL — A Port Richey man and his son face a number of criminal charges after Pasco County deputies say at least one shot was fired at them during a Friday warrant search at a home on Congress Street.

According to the sheriff’s office, deputies went to a home in the 8000 block of Congress Street Friday to serve a warrant. When deputies were attempting to enter the home, Kalamo Kamu Sr., 51, is accused of firing “at least one round at deputies,” an email from the sheriff’s office said.

No one was injured, but Kamu Sr. was charged with attempted murder of a law enforcement officer, the sheriff’s office said.

Once inside the home, deputies say they found three shotguns, a Sig Sauer .380 and $6,000 in cash. A total of 203 grams of crack cocaine was also seized.

In addition to the attempted murder charge, Kamu Sr. was charged with felon in possession of a firearm, possession of cocaine and possession of a controlled substance.

Deputies say his son, Kalamo Kamu Jr., 34, was charged with three counts of sale and possession of crack cocaine within 1,000 feet of a child care facility, six counts of unlawful use of a two-way communication device and three counts of trafficking in crack cocaine.

Both father and son were taken to the Land O’ Lakes Jail.
