Adele Sands To Purdue: Pipeline Swimming Adds Another College Signee

Pipeline Swimming has become a pipeline for local swimmers that want to compete at the college level.

The Tampa area has had a plethora of college and Olympic qualifiers over the years. The talent combined with the many pools available have made the area a hotbed of talent. Pipeline Swimming is an established club that regularly churns out college swimmers and national-level qualifiers.

The founders of the club, Rene and Patrick Piper saw two of their children Lauren and Jessica head to University of Alabama and University of Cincinnati/Florida International University. Both coaches are known at the state and national level which helps provide exposure for their swimmers.

The latest success story coming out of Pipeline Swimming is that of Adele Sands. Adele recently signed with Purdue University, where her parents are both alumni. Sands is a distance specialist that swims high school for Carrollwood Day School in Tampa.

Sands currently has a number of Junior National cuts in 4 events. Freestyle is her specialty with the cuts being in the 200, 400, 800, and 1500 meter freestyle events in long course meters. She will make an immediate impact for the Boilermakers when heading to Purdue in the fall of 2024. The pool is not the only place Adele Sands thrive as she is also a 3-time Academic All-American.

The Sands family is no stranger to success in the pool with Adele’s brothers, Sam and Will winning relay state championships with Tampa Jesuit.

Adele Sands and her parents Will and Brenna, who are both Purdue University graduates. Brother Sam Sands (UNC) and Will Jr (University of Florida).

Past years have included Michelle Morgan who swims for UNC-Chapel Hill. Morgan was an Olympic Trials qualifier and multiple-time FHSAA Swimming state champion.

Pipeline Swimming continues its success in and out of the pool. With locations in Tampa Palms, Westchase, Winter Haven, and East Lake, the team is composed of talent around the Tampa Bay area. The team offers groups of all ages and ability levels. Multiple coaches on deck have had success swimming in college and on the international levels. The club regularly holds clinics run by Olympic Gold medalists Melanie Margalis, Tripp Schwenk, and Ryan Lochte.

The newest addition to Pipeline Swimming is head age group coach Tommy Wyher. Wyher is a decorated swimmer from the Tampa area who won 7 individual high school state titles. Tommy attended UNC-Chapel Hill, where he set 6 school records and 2 ACC Conference records and was the ACC Champion 4 times in the 100-yard backstroke and 2 times in the 100-yard butterfly.
