Danish to Create More Than Just Local Political Office

For Mark Danish, winning the race for state representative in District 63 was like “climbing a mountain.”

“This was David versus Goliath,” said the Democrat, whose lack of campaign funds and political experience did not stop him from unseating incumbent Republican Shawn Harrison.

When asked what was next, Danish said he is still figuring that out to an extent. “It is November 7^th,” he said. “Everything we worked on was planning through November 6^th.”

But one thing is sure: Danish said he is eager to deliver on his promise of helping average workers and those hit by the economic downturn. A plan is in the works to turn his local office – which has not yet been set up, obviously – into a community resource center of sorts.

Danish said his wife, Linda, will head it up. Locals will be able to come in to find information on area job postings, how to receive charitable services and locate financial resources. He envisions local businesses providing his office with information about career openings.

“We don’t want to be just a political office,” he said.

Although he will be a state representative, Danish does not plan on leaving his science teacher's post at Benito Middle School. He said he is working with school officials to take a leave of absence during legislative sessions.
