Family Of 5, Dog OK After Fire

A family of five escaped injury when a fire broke out in their New Tampa home early Thursday.

TAMPA, FL — A family of five and their dog are fine after an early Thursday morning blaze ripped through their New Tampa home.

According to Tampa Fire Rescue, its crews were called to a home in the 10200 block of Estuary Drive in the early morning hours Thursday. The first crews to arrive on the scene found heavy flames and smoke shooting from the home. The blaze was brought under control by 1:50 a.m.

Officials say the fire started in the garage from an undetermined source. The blaze is thought to be accidental, according to an email from fire rescue.

“The home is a total loss with damage to the structure and contents estimated at $377,000,” the email said.

Fire rescue officials credit the family’s working smoke detectors for their safe escape from the home. The family was taken in by friends in the neighborhood following the fire, authorities say.
