UPDATE: New Tampa Bicyclist Killed In Hit and Run On Way To Work

Update: The Hillsborough County Sheriff's office has arrested Christopher Jacob Kimmel, 23, of the 4000 block of Briarlake Drive in Valrico. He is charged with leaving the scene of a crash involving death.

A New Tampa man has died following what the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office is calling an early morning hit and run incident near the U.S. 92 overpass crossing of Interstate 4 this morning.

Michael Duriel Lee, 29, was riding his bicycle eastbound on the shoulder of U.S. 92 about 7:50 a.m. on August 6.  He was struck by an unknown vehicle on the overpass to I-4, the Sheriff’s Office said. 

“The suspect vehicle struck the victim and the victim was ejected from the bicycle, over the guardrail to the south, and came to rest in the retention area below,” the Sheriff’s Office wrote in an email.

Duriel, of 10216 Altavista Ave. in New Tampa, died as a result of the incident. Anyone with any information reference the traffic fatality is asked to call the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office at 247-8200.
