Going "green" for the holidays can be easy. When planning for gift-giving, and even your holiday menus, keep in mind the three "Rs" — reduce, reuse and recycle.

General categories of seasonal holiday-related items to consider include:
- Shipping and packaging - cellophane, bubble wrap, air pillows, cardboard boxes, plastic, and Styrofoam
- Gift packaging - wrapping paper, gift bags, boxes, bows, ribbons, cards, tags, and envelopes
- Menu prep - aluminum foil and cans (aluminum, tin or steel)
Some items which seem to be recycle-friendly may not be after all. For example, gift wraps and bags made with coatings, foil, or glitter embellishment should be reused or sent to the landfill. Plain paper wraps and bags can be recycled, or even better – reused next year!
