TAMPA, FL — Working smoke alarms woke a family up and allowed them to safely evacuate their home before firefighters arrived on the scene Sunday morning.

Tampa Fire Rescue responded to a house fire in the 4000 block of Londonderry Drive in Tampa Palms at 6:30 a.m. to find smoke and flames shooting through the roof of the single-story home.

Crews made a defensive attack on the fire due to a report of guns and ammunition secured in a safe in the home by the homeowner.
