Tampa Mosque Arson: Video Released

Hillsborough County deputies are asking for help identifying a man connected to an April arson fire at a mosque.

TAMPA, FL — The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office on Monday released surveillance video shot during an April arson fire at a mosque in the New Tampa area. Authorities are asking anyone who recognizes the man in the video to contact them right away.

The fire under investigation was sparked around 2 a.m. Feb. 24 at The Islamic Society of New Tampa, 15830 Morris Bridge Road. Authorities say the man walked up to the property on foot, carrying a large container and rope. The man is seen on the video making several failed attempts to start a fire using both the container and rope. He then moved out of the camera’s field of vision and “was able to successfully ignite the large ignitable liquid accelerant container, which in turned caused damage to the mosque.”

After lighting the blaze, the man took off on foot back toward Morris Bridge Road.
