USF Straw Poll Being Held Today

The tally will provide an indicator of how students will vote in November.

From the University of South Florida:

University of South Florida students will express their opinions on the 2012 presidential race, the U.S. Senate race in Florida and various ballot amendments Monday in the campus-wide straw poll.

The election year tradition organized by student organizations on the Tampa campus and USF Political Science Professor Susan MacManus provides unique insight into how young voters might influence the upcoming election on a state and national level.

Polling will be conducted from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at six locations on campus: the Marshall Student Center; the library; Juniper-Poplar residence hall; Cooper Hall; and the colleges of Business and Engineering.

Results will be tallied and released the same day, with a goal of having final results available for the evening newscasts.

The event is sponsored by the campus political honor society Pi Sigma Alpha, USF’s Honors College and Student Government.  MacManus and student leaders and voters will be available for interviews throughout the day.
