Wesley Chapel Rotarians Head to Honduras to Work on Clean Water Project
The club members will help install clean water filters for residents in the Trojes mountain region.

While Americans tend to take clean drinking water for granted, that's not the case in many third-world countries.
That's why 10 members of the Wesley Chapel Rotary Club are partnering with Pure Water for the World, a nonprofit organization that works in remote and underserved regions of developing countries that lack sustainable clean, safe drinking water.
The club members will travel to the Honduras April 14-20 to install clean water filters and help construct latrines for residents in the Las Trojes mountain region.

This is the second year club members have traveled to the Honduras to work on the Las Trojes clean water project, which aims to install 1,500 water filters and build 500 latrines in 34 mountain communities to serve 8,000 people.
“I have always wanted to do something like this,” said Rotarian and owner of FocalPoint Business Performance of Tampa Bay Dulcee Loehn. “I am so grateful that the Rotary Club of Wesley Chapel is giving me this opportunity to give back. I am passionate about community service, so this is a natural fit for me.”

According to Pure Water for the World, a child dies every 15 seconds from poor water quality.
In addition to working on the clean water project designed to reduce illness due to contaminated water, the club members will teach Honduran children about hygiene and cleanliness.
The club has raised $17,000 for the Rotarians to make the trip but is still seeking monetary donations as well as donations of bubbles, string or yarn for hand games, hair ribbons, barrettes, flash cards, stickers, granola bars and small candies for the children.
Anyone interested in donating can contact Eric Johnson at 727-772-3265 or ericjohnson@wesleychapeltoyota.com.
