10-Year-Old Girl Charged With Murder In Orlando Shooting: Report

During a fight between her mother and another woman, the girl shot the woman with a gun from her mother's bag, Orlando police said.

ORLANDO, FL — A 10-year-old girl was arrested Tuesday and is being charged with second-degree murder in connection with a shooting at an apartment complex on Mercy Drive last week, according to the Orlando Police Department.

Prior to the May 30 shooting, the girl's mother, Lakrisha S. Isaac, 31, and Lashun Denise Rodgers, 41, got into a fight over a prior argument, according to an arrest affidavit obtained by Patch.

During the altercation, Isaac handed her backpack to her daughter, who rummaged through it, withdrew a handgun and fired two shots at Rodgers, striking her in the head. Isaac grabbed the firearm from her daughter, and the two retreated into their apartment, according to the affidavit.

Rodgers was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center, where she died early May 31.

Isaac was arrested last week and has been charged with manslaughter culpable negligence, child neglect, negligent storage of a firearm and aggravated assault with a firearm, according to Orange County Jail records.

The child was released to the Florida Department of Children and Families immediately after the shooting and is now in custody at the Orange County Juvenile Justice Center, according to police.

The shooting is one of two recent instances of minors shooting and killing adults in Orlando. A 2-year-old shot and killed his father after finding a gun in their house on May 26.
