Florida 3-Year-Old Dead After Sister Placed Pillow Over Head: Police

The teen sister has been arrested and charged with manslaughter after police say she put a pillow over her sister's head to keep her quiet.

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, FL — A 3-year-old girl was killed in her Florida home Friday after her 16-year-old sister placed a pillow over head for around 10 minutes, according to the Altamonte Springs police.

The teen put the pillow over her sister's head in an attempt to keep her quiet. When she came back 10 minutes later, the girl was unresponsive, police said.

She was still unresponsive when officers found her at the home on Raymond Avenue. She was taken to Advent Health Hospital, where she later died, according to police.

Police arrested the teen, who is being charged with negligent manslaughter, authorities said.

The sisters' mother was working from home at the time, and the teen typically looked after her sister during work hours while the mother worked in the bedroom, according to an arrest report obtained by Patch.

The mother told police she heard the toddler being loud and asked the teen to keep her quiet since she was on the phone. The teen later brought the unresponsive 3-year-old to the mother, who called 911 and attempted to revive the child, according to the report.
