1. Former Central Florida tax collector Joel Greenberg will pay Seminole County government more than $1.3 million in restitution to help cover the county's losses while he was in office, according to an announcement from the county. Greenberg is facing a mandatory minimum of 12 years in prison and a maximum of life in prison after sentencing Dec. 1. (Click Orlando)
2. Theme park giant Disney is raising prices in December, citing overwhelming park demand from guests. Tickets will rise to as much as $179 at Hollywood Studios and up to $180 at Magic Kingdom. Ticket prices will change depending on on date and demand. (Patch Orlando)
3. Orange County's first and last Radio Shack will finally close down in mid-December after over five decades of business near downtown Orlando. It will be replaced by a smoke shop in early 2023. (Bungalower)
4. Orlando is hosting its first ever LEGO Convention next March when the Orlando Brick Convention comes to Osceola Heritage Park in Central Florida. Proceeds from the event will benefit Creations for Charity, which helps underprivileged children around the world receive new LEGO sets during the holidays. (Orlando Weekly)
5. Orlando's ICON Park is opening a new experience at The Wheel called “The Great Florida Road Trip, A Classic Vacation and Photo Travelogue with the Flamingo Family." The interactive game will give visitors a look at Florida before the arrival of major theme parks. More details will be shared Thursday at the IAAPA Expo at Orange County Convention Center. - Orlando Police Department shared: "Detectives are currently in the process of identifying the owners of over 70 stolen cell phones during EDC weekend. Through taking proactive steps in their investigative efforts, OPD's property detectives were able to arrest 3 individuals who had a backpack containing the stolen cellphones." - City of Orlando is putting “safety coaches” in middle schools to control school violance. 5 middle schools will be part of the program. The commissioner behind the project says the officials will be trained on de-escalation and mental health. (Click Orlando)
- Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer shared: "In September 2021, a fire caused great damage at Pet Alliance of Greater Orlando's facility, taking the lives of 17 cats. The non-profit received an outpouring of support from our community, which made the recent ribbon cutting for its temporary cat shelter in downtown Orlando even more meaningful."
