Mom Reunited With Daughter Who Was Abducted In 2007: Police

Angelica Vences-Salgado told police she was contacted by someone on social media claiming to be the daughter abducted at age 6. It was her.

CLERMONT, FL — A mother and daughter who hadn’t seen each other in 14 years have been reunited. Law enforcement officials are crediting teamwork among multiple agencies in making it possible.

Angelica Vences-Salgado called the police department in Clermont, Florida, on Sept. 2, telling them she had just been contacted by someone on social media claiming to be her daughter, Jacqueline Hernandez, police said. Jacqueline went missing at age 6 in 2007 and was believed to have been abducted from her home by her father.

Jacqueline, now 19, told her mother she had been in Mexico and asked to meet her at a U.S.-Mexico point of entry at the border in Texas.

“This is a prime example of what can be accomplished when multiple law enforcement agencies and their respective communities work cooperatively together and maintain open lines of communication,” Clermont Police Chief Charles Broadway said in a news release.

The sentiment was echoed by David Pezzutti, an assistant special agent in charge with Homeland Security Investigations Orlando, one of several agencies working on the case.

“A kidnapped daughter was reunited with her mother as a result of enforcement working together,” Pezzutti said in a statement shared by People Magazine. “This is a great example of how strong partnerships in law enforcement can work to solve problems, no matter the complexity or distance.”

The Orange County Sheriff's Office, Homeland Security Investigations in Orlando and Laredo, Texas, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Laredo police and Clermont police are among the agencies who worked the case, officials said.

Additional details of where the daughter has been the last 14 years have not been shared. Media outlets sharing the story have not included any statements from the pair.

Jacqueline’s father, Pablo Hernandez, has been accused of abducting her and still faces a felony kidnapping warrant that was issued in December 2007, according to NBC News.
