1. Tech repair retailer uBreakiFix, which started in Orlando, has laid off seven local workers as its parent company cuts 1,000 jobs companywide. All Orlando uBreakiFix employees who lost their jobs worked in corporate roles and will receive severance packages. (Subscription: Orlando Business Journal)

2. Members of Communications Workers of America District 3 held a rally at Senator Marco Rubio's office in Orlando on Friday to urge him to vote for the PRO Act. The proposed legislation would help support workers organizing to fight for improved working conditions and benefits. (WESH)

3. Nearly three dozen Orange County residents gathered Thursday for a town hall to call for a rent hike cap. Several speakers spoke out in favor of a proposal to cap rent increases at 5% a year and would like to bring the issue to voters in November. (Spectrum News 13)

4. Data company Clever Real Estate has ranked Orlando as the number one city in the U.S.A. with the highest vacancy rate. A total of 161,000 housing units sit vacant in Orlando. Local real estate broker Antonio Srado blames the issue on a lack of affordability. (WESH)

5. An altercation broke out Wednesday at Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando. It was the second fight in the last 3 months at the popular destination. One man reportedly suffered injuries to his face and was taken to a nearby hospital, according to Fox 35. Other family members sustained minor cuts and bruises. Video footage captured the incident.   • Monday, July 25, is the deadline for registering to vote in the August 23 primary this year. Party primaries require voters to be affiliated with a party, however there are also nonpartisan races for school board, judges, and local government to vote for. (Subscription: Orlando Sentinel)
  • Starbucks workers at the 400 S. Park Ave. Starbucks in Winter Park narrowly voted against unionizing with Starbucks Workers United on Wednesday. The final tally was 5 votes for the union, 8 votes against with a 65% voter turnout. (Orlando Weekly)
  • Bungalower Media is hosting a pre-game party ahead of the Orlando City vs. Philadelphia MLS game today at Persimmon Hollow Brewing by Lake Eola starting at 3 p.m. with community partners. (Bungalower)
  • Local volunteers in Orlando are working to transcribe documents created by formerly-enslaved people in the first days of emancipation. The project is being worked on at Wells'Built Museum of African American History and Culture in Orlando. (WFTV)
