2. The Orlando-based Florida Realtors organization is suing the CDC to try and overturn the pandemic eviction moratorium and want a permanent injunction against the CDC. The current fine for those who violate the moratorium order can be fined up to $100,000 and/or spend a year in jail; if the eviction results in a death, the landlord can be fined up to $250,000. (WFTV)
3. Stetson University is breaking ground on a new 40,000 square-foot health sciences building as their undergraduate degree program grows. The building is named after Hyatt and Cici Brown who donated $18 million to the project in 2018 and are on the board of trustees for the college. (Orlando Business Journal)
4. Over 1,600 acres burned in a Brevard wildfire now dubbed the “Tree Fog Fire”. The lack of rain lately has caused a drought that has led to a number of wildfires around the state. High winds haven’t helped as well. (Fox 35 Orlando)
5. Chef Chico Mendonça of Bem Bom Food in Audubon Park passed away from cancer after a 7 month battle. The restaurant and concept he dreamed up will go on. Mendonça built up his business from a local food truck to a successful restaurant. (Orlando Sentinel)
