📰 News we're reading

1. Florida woman sues Disney after falling near Animal Kingdom Lodge pool, complaint says (fox35orlando.com) — A lawsuit filed in Orange County claims a Broward County woman suffered permanent injuries after slipping on a wet surface near the Samawati Springs Pool at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge in Orlando. She alleges Disney failed to maintain safe conditions and is seeking $50,000 for medical costs, pain, and suffering. The case stems from an incident that occurred in March.

2. Let it Glow: Exploring some of Central Florida's breathtaking holiday displays (fox35orlando.com) — Neighborhoods across the Orlando area are lighting up the holidays with elaborate displays, from massive inflatable collections in Apopka and Longwood to a 60-year family tradition in Sanford and a reindeer-lined street in St. Cloud. FOX 35 highlights where residents can see towering dinosaurs, faux snow, and hundreds of glowing decorations. It’s a festive tour of Central Florida’s most over-the-top Christmas lights.

3. Central Florida family celebrates first Christmas at home with son after 11 months in the NICU (wesh.com) — An Orange County family is celebrating their young son’s first Christmas at home after he spent 11 months in Orlando Health’s Winnie Palmer Hospital NICU. Born extremely premature at just over a pound, Nathaniel is now thriving on oxygen support, visiting Disney parks, and enjoying Santa photos, while his parents share gratitude for Orlando medical staff and hope with other NICU families.

4. A Florida lawmaker seeks to legislate drinking straws (wusf.org) — Orlando is among several Florida cities that have already banned single-use plastic straws, but a new statewide bill could change how those local rules work. The proposal would push cities toward compostable, biodegradable straw options, citing health concerns over PFAS chemicals in paper straws and aiming to standardize regulations across Florida. Local businesses and venues in Orlando could see their straw policies revisited.
