1. Orlando City Soccer will host three-time English Premier League champions, Arsenal FC, on Wednesday, July 20 at Exploria Stadium. London-based Arsenal has won 14 FA Cups, two League Cups, 16 FA Community Shields, one European Cup Winners' Cup, and 13 EFL and Premier League titles, as well as an undefeated season in the 2003-04 season. 2. A school bus was involved in a fatal accident in Lake County on Wednesday morning. The driver of a car was killed when the crash occurred at 6:40 a.m. at the intersection of U.S. Highway 27 and Great Egret Drive, according to Florida Highway Patrol. No injuries were reported from the school bus, which had 17 students on board. (Orlando Patch)
3. If the plan by Governor Ron DeSantis and Florida Republicans goes through to end Disney's special governance, Orange and Osceola counties would assume all assets and liabilities of Reedy Creek on June 1, 2023, much like they would if towns such as St. Cloud or Apopka are dissolved. Reedy Creek historically operates at a loss of approximately $5 to $10 million per year, per its financial reports. (WFTV)
4. There are already four known sea turtle nests in Volusia County this year, which is the earliest nest record for county-managed beaches. Sea turtle nesting season normally begins May 1 in Central Florida. Sea turtle advocates ask the public not to interfere with the process, which will prevent harm to the turtles' survival. (WESH)
5. The University of Central Florida Faculty Senate held elections for the 2022-23 senate year during a meeting held through Zoom. The election was led by William Self, a professor of medicine who served as the senate's chair from 2017 to 2020. Former Faculty Senate Vice Chair Stephen King was elected chair, the highest position in the senate. (NSM Today)
