1. Orlando is set to gain a XFL football team. The team, which currently is unnamed, will be coached by Terrell Buckley, who recently coached at the University of Mississippi and is a former NFL player and Super Bowl champion. (Bungalower)
2. A new haunted house announced for Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Resort in Orlando this fall will take guests inside The Weeknd's mind to where his inspirations for his latest album came from. The haunted house will be separated into three sections and feature six songs total. (Orlando Weekly)
3. Chris Castro, the former sustainability director in Orlando for Mayor Buddy Dyer, was appointed this month to the Biden Administration as chief of staff for the Department of Energy's Office of State and Community Energy Programs. 4. SeaWorld's Craft Beer Festival is returning to the theme park each Friday to Sunday starting August 5 to September 5 with new beers, cocktails and food samplings for guests to enjoy. 5. Phat Ash Bakes has opened a shop at 912 N. Mills Ave. behind Grilled Cheezus in Orlando's Mills 50 neighborhood. The business began on social media platforms and is now a brick-and-mortar. - Orange County Democratic lawmakers gathered at Lake Eola on Thursday to call for more affordable housing as rent has spiked an average of 30% in the Orlando area. The CEO of Coalition for Homeless of Central Florida said that 33% of those entering their homeless shelters are there for the first-time.(Fox 35)
- The Florida Department of Health in Volusia County, Bureau of Public Health Laboratories, and the CDC in Volusia County announced Friday they are investigating a confirmed case of monkeypox. (WFTV)
- Orlando City SC is heading to Washington D.C. to face off against D.C. United on Sunday, July 31 at Audi Field. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. ET. (Orlando City SC)
