Search For Man Who Jumped From Carnival Ship Off FL Coast Suspended
The Coast Guard said it searched approximately 2,078 square miles for 58 search hours but never located the Carnival passenger.
FLORIDA — The Coast Guard suspended its search Monday night for a man who jumped from the Carnival Mardi Gras during its return to Port Canaveral over the weekend.
At 1:15 a.m., Saturday, officials said a Carnival Mardi Gras cruise ship crew member notified the Coast Guard of a passenger, Tang Tran, 43, who went overboard approximately 63 miles east of Melbourne.
A Carnival Cruise Line spokesperson told Patch that the ship's crew participated in search and rescue efforts until the ship was released by the U.S. Coast Guard.

Capt. Mark Vlaun, Commander, Coast Guard Sector Jacksonville said ultimately he made the decision to call off the search.
"We are grateful to Carnival for the swift response and support to the family. Our deepest condolences go out to Mr. Tran’s family and friends during this difficult time.," Vlaun said in a news release.
The Carnival Care Team is currently supporting the guest's family, the spokesperson said.
