Search Underway For Man Who Jumped From Carnival Ship Off FL Coast
The U.S. Coast Guard is searching for a man who jumped off the Carnival Mardi Gras during its return to Port Canaveral, officials said.
FLORIDA — A search is underway for a man who reportedly jumped off a Carnival Cruise Line ship over the weekend.
A spokesperson for Carnival Cruise Line confirmed the news to Patch in an email.
Officials said the crew of the Carnival Mardi Gras notified the U.S. Coast Guard that a male guest jumped overboard early Saturday morning during the ship’s return to Port Canaveral, which is approximately 54 miles from Orlando.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the guest and his family," the cruise ship company said in a statement.
The Carnival Cruise Line spokesperson said the ship’s crew participated in search and rescue efforts until the ship was released by the U.S. Coast Guard.

The U.S. Coast Guard is now leading rescue efforts.
The Carnival Care Team is currently supporting the guest’s family, the spokesperson said.
The Mardi Gras has since returned to Port Canaveral and departed on its next cruise as scheduled.
