1. Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida recently received a $300,000 grant from the Florida Blue Foundation to expand hunger relief efforts by training local health care providers to screen patients for risk factors that could indicate food insecurity so they can be directed to community resources. The program will expand the non-profit's Health and Hunger Task Force. (The Apopka Voice)
2. Sprouts Farmers Market is planning to hire 100 workers for its new Apopka store. The Arizona-based grocery chain is opening its 28,000-square-foot store at 2283 E. Semoran Blvd. on Friday, May 20. It will host a Wednesday, March 23 virtual hiring event and an Wednesday, April 6th in-person hiring event at Embassy Suites at 225 Shorecrest Drive in Atlamonte Springs. 3. A fisherman was bitten by a shark Wednesday in Volusia County at New Smyrna Beach, officials said. Volusia County Beach Safety said the 21-year-old New Jersey man was fishing in waist-deep water when he was bitten by a black-tip shark. He was not seriously injured. (Click Orlando)
4. The team at Tasty Chomps food blog is hosting a special secret menu option at all three locations of Tabla Indian Restaurant in Lake Nona, Winter Park, and Kirkman Road through Sunday, March 13. 5. Bob Chapek, chief executive officer of The Walt Disney Company, has now made comments opposing a controversial bill nicknamed the "Don't Say Gay" bill. Chapek said he and other Disney executives will meet with Governor Ron DeSantis. Protesters have been demanding Disney take a stronger stance against the legislation and calling on the company to stop donations to candidates who support the bill. (WESH)
